| My used book purchase of the day |
Out of every person in the whole wide world, I think I get along the best with my mom. And while I can list all the big reasons, I think it boils down to the fact that, when we're in the middle of a mini road trip from Charlottesville to Philly, she's just as willing as I am to stop at a random thrift shop to stock up on winter reading. And then we listen to Ingrid while stuck in traffic on I-95--me drifting off to sleep and my mom waking me once in a while to fish for a couple dollars from her wallet when we hit a toll--until I'm no longer sleepy and we talk about whatever pops into our heads. And when we finally get to Philly, since the boys are on a camping trip, it's still just us: my mom makes two cups of peach and mango tea while I catch up on e-mails and stress out about school-related stuff and ask her how she stays so relaxed all the time. My mom chuckles and says something about how I'm just like my dad, then goes back to reading the copy of Augustine's
Confessions that she got from my bookshelf back at school. I love that my mom loves books.
Speaking of which, I hope this book is good. I picked it up because I wanted something light to balance out the dense reading material that must be tackled this break in order for me to survive next semester. But then I read the back cover and realized that the story's told from the perspective of a dog...sketchy. Maybe I should just send it to Joyce, lol. I'll probably end up reading it, loving it, and retracting my skepticism in a future blog post. Or not. We'll see---
Haha dude I never heard of that book until my student teaching this semester...I heard it's pretty good! Some of my students read it or chose it for their lit circle groups. But I heard it's also actually kind of sad.
ReplyDeleteIt has two different versions (like Three Cups of Tea) - one is for younger readers and one is higher level...so I hope you got the higher level! Anyways let me know how it is, because I never got around to reading it.
Ooooo! I've been wanted to read that book. Tell me how you like it and I want to borrow it!! :)
