Hey Lucy!

 Dear Lucy,

You probably thought that, since your birthday is over, there would be no more birthday surprises, but BAM! Well, it's more like a little bam because a blog post isn't really anything fancy.  But, anywho. I cannot believe that we're fourth years now, and that we have been roomies for all four years of college.  I guess we need to give A. A. Milne a lot more credit than the average pair of fwends, since that cute little Winnie-the-Pooh quote that we both happened to love is what really sealed the deal to our Maupin 315 destiny and beyond.

I know that people think, "Oh, Lucy and Christy.  Christy and Lucy.  They're basically besties because they've lived together for all these years and they're always together and they're both weird."  And in a way, I guess these things are true.  We know each other's little quirks, big quirks, the way we each like our eggs prepared, the silly things we do when we're happy, and the way our noses look after having a good cry on a bad day.  But in a way, I think there's more to our friendship than that.  It's like that illustration you showed me the other day, that basically captured the idea of how there's a clear beginning and a clear end, but the in-between is like a big bowl of spaghetti, with the path going in all sorts of loops and swirls and curly Qs.  Not that our relationship's exactly complicated, but during these four years of college, we've developed our personalities a little more, met lots of different people, experienced seasons of faith and doubt, and, in the process, now share a friendship that has survived change.  I think that's something worth noting.  And with even more changes and experiences looming before us (especially after a certain tassel moves from right to left), I hope that we continue to place our friendship in God's hands, since that's the only place where trust and honesty and faithfulness and other friend-y qualities can truly develop and flourish.  I am very thankful for you : ]
